Snowflake Ice Tree - Lakes Region & Southern New Hampshire
A hike to Round Pond in the center of the Belknap Range after a February ice storm led to this image. This particular tree looked like a classic snowflake shape when isolated against the blue sky. All the trees above 1200' had a heavy coating of ice that was particularly striking on this bluebird day. It started to become literally striking as chunks of ice fell off the trees in the warming sun. The clanking became constant and sounded like glass breaking all around me. Then larger branches began to snap off and I decided to book it out of there in the interest of safety. Quite the adventure close to home!
