Sunset at Sterling Pond - Vermont & Long Trail
Sterling Pond is on the Long Trail near Smugglers Notch and sits above 3000' elevation. It is Vermont's highest pond. I had the whole area to myself on the first night of a 40 mile three day section hike of the Long Trail from RT 15 to RT2 in late September. A spectacular sunset developed behind Mount Mansfield 4393' (Vermont's highest mountain) as I cooked dinner. I used a 2.5 second exposure blur the wavy pond water to create this a dream-like effect. The solitude and freedom sure felt like a dream!
