December

For this shot, on my second visit to Isle Au Haut and island 7 miles off the coast of Maine, I really focused on taking a slow approach to finding compositions and thinking through my photography. Earlier in the day, when the light was harsh, I noticed this clump of rocks partially exposed in the ocean. I realized that at the right tide, I would be able to stand in the ocean and get this shot with just enough water to do a long exposures to simplify the normal rock and seaweed clutter of the ocean floor. That evening, though I stood on the cliffs at the edge of the sea photographing sunset, which was kind of a hazy dud, my real intention was to patiently wait until the composition I was really after materialized during blue hour. Not the iconic Acadia golden hour shot, but so much more rewarding. This was a 30 second exposure.
Sorry for no snowy image for December, you can wait for the snow right?
